A deposit of £50.00 is payable on booking. The fee includes slope fees, training, course material and manuals. IT DOES NOT INCLUDE your annual associate BASI membership, insurance, food etc.
Annual associate membership is £45.00
Please note: All World Class Skiing organised BASI courses are subject to a minimum of 8 persons.
If this number is not achieved within 14 days of commencement, the course will be cancelled and all paid amounts will be refunded.
BASI COURSE DETAILS
This is a 5 day training and assessment course in which the following subjects
are covered and assessed:
- Skiing safely
- Planning, conducting and evaluating an instructing session
- Participating in an accident and emergency activity
- Knowing and understanding how to improve personal skiing and instructing performance
Understanding of:
- The Central Theme and Beyond
- The FIS Rules of Conduct
- The Principles of Ski Teaching
- The Structure of Snowsport in the UK
- The Roles of Snowsport Agencies in the UK
- Marketing and Promoting Snowsport in the UK
- Dealing with accidents and emergencies
DETAILED
This is the entry level course for students who wish to join the BASI Education System.
The qualification is for those wishing to find employment in a non mountain environment,
i.e. Dry Slopes and Indoor Snowslopes. It is also the 1st stage of the BASI Instructor Level 2.
Before applying for an Alpine Level 1 Instructor course, students must:
- Be able to ski parallel confidently, coping with a variety of conditions and have completed at least 16 weeks of skiing.
- Be able to ski parallel confidently on red runs, making rhythmical turns close to the fall line at a steady pace.
- Have an understanding of Client care
Students who are unsure whether or not they are at the necessary standard should ask a qualified BASI member for advice.
Pre-requisites
The following pre-requisites must be met before attending an Alpine Level 1 Instructor course.
Students must:
- Complete the declaration on the booking form and return it to the BASI office.
- Join BASI as an Associate Member
- Be 16 years of age or older.
Training synopsis
Alpine Level 1 Instructor qualification consists of the following modules;
- Child Protection
- First Aid Certificate
- Techinical and Teaching Training & Assessement Module
- 35 Logged Hours

First Aid
First Aid certificate needs to be issued by an organization recognised by the Health and Safety Executive.
The course must be a minimum of 2 days or 14hrs long.

35 Logged Hours Ski School Experience
A total of 35 hours minimum of teaching/ski school experience is part of the Level 1 Instructor training course. Teaching Ski School experience may include any of the following:
* Understanding how bookings are taken and how people are selected into different standards
* Shadowing experienced Instructors delivering lessons
* Delivering lessons as per the constraints for the Level 1 Licence
* Understanding how customer satisfaction is assessed and how dissatisfied customers are dealt with
* Understanding how the Customer satisfaction procedures improve Instructor and administrational practices
* Taking part in and understanding in house staff training for Instructors
* Understanding how Snowsports Schools maintain Safety standards and maintain their currency of good practice
* Understanding the Risk Assessment process that Snowsport Schools and Instructors take
* Understand Accident and First Aid procedures including accident reporting
Students should provide a breakdown in writing of what they have covered during their Ski School experience and this should be signed by the Ski School supervisor.

Outcomes
Successful students will be issued a certification to work only on dryslope or indoor snow slopes. Students will be able to work with novice and early intermediate skiers. On completion of the Level 1 Instructor course students are individually debriefed and advised on the degree of preparation required before presenting themselves for the Level 2 Instructor Training Course, as well as to their competence to work in the controlled environments of dry slopes and Snow-domes.
Instructor Level 1 Resit Policy
Normally BASI operates a five day resit policy. Specific to The Instructor Level 1 Module, in some cases a one day resit may be recommended by the Trainer, in all other cases a five day resit will be recommended.
Course Completion
Alpine Level 1 Instructor licence can only be issued to a student who has fulfilled the following conditions.
The student must:
- Have completed and passed all aspects of Alpine Level 1 Instructor training.
- Hold a current First Aid certificate issued by an organization recognised by the Health and Safety Executive. The course must be a minimum of 2 days long or 14hrs duration.
- Have paid the current subscription fee.
- Have attended the Child Protection Module.
- Have logged 35 hours teaching/ski school experience.
Training Materials
Course fee includes a Generic Manual, Alpine Manual and a course workbook, which will be issued at the start of the course. Students must ensure that they bring their Pre-Course information booklets along to the course. A charge of 5.00 will be made for replacements (pre-course information booklet)
Course Dates
Please note that all course dates are on-slope dates, i.e. they do not include travel time to and from the course. Almost all of the courses run on slope from Monday through to Friday but many will start with a Sunday evening briefing. Some courses have optional accommodation and travel packages available.
Insurance
As many BASI students now take annual insurance, it is not included in the cost of the course. Students may use their own insurance (a standard wintersports holiday insurance should cover all eventualities apart from your course fee for which they may make an extra charge) Make sure your policy covers for cancellation or
curtailment and medical costs in case of accident.
BASI offer an insurance package, but this can only be taken with the BASI accommodation package and
when traveling to and from the Uk to do the course. Always read the small print of your insurance policy document.
PLEASE NOTE: After completion of your Alpine Level 1 Instructor, students will have a minimum pre requisite of 35 hours of ski school experience. This can be obtained either on a dry slope; snowdome or with a Snowsports school before attending a BASI Level 2 Instructor Training module.
The Director of the school is required to sign a letter, on headed paper, stating that these hours have been completed. A copy of this letter is to be sent to the BASI office for verification. PLEASE NOTE:This is the entry level course for students who wish to join the BASI Education System.
